The Illinois Charity Banjo is entirely one-of-a-kind, made with a Honey Amber neck bearing the shape and name of Illinois proudly on the peghead. With pearloid inlays of white set into the Midnight Maple fingerboard, and energetic red resonator this banjo shares the vibrant energy of the people of Illinois.
The drum head of the banjo is custom made by Remo with the Delta Tour Wings Logo and personally signed by Mumford & Sons.
Based on the Deering Artisan Goodtime Two this banjo has a resonator back for projection, and a violin grade maple rim that gives it a bright and clear tone. Designed and built by Deering Banjos at their factory in Spring Valley, California specifically for this auction.
The stunning Artisan Goodtime banjos embody Greg Deering’s lifelong vision for the Deering Banjo Company – to make the best sounding, playing, looking, and best value U.S.A. made banjo that he possibly could. It is a never-ending quest that Deering pursues every single day.
The Charity this auction will benefit is The Arc of Illinois . The Arc of Illinois truly believes that we are all people first and because of that, regardless of any developmental or intellectual differences, everyone deserves the same rights and opportunities. The history of The Arc of Illinois reflects a rich grassroots movement that actually took to task misconceptions about the abilities of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Their research indicates that families started meeting as support groups in the early 1930’s, meeting in church basements and people’s homes to provide support for families and voluntary day activities for their children with disabilities. The vision of these families and The Arc of Illinois in these early times was that their children had value and could learn, given supports and opportunities. These courageous families took a strong advocacy stance – contrary to the professionals of the day.
The Arc of Illinois and its chapters have always been in the forefront of strong advocacy positions for people with disabilities and their families. Much of the important legislation nationally and in Illinois is a direct result of the advocacy of The Arc. It is rare when any piece of public policy does not have the fingerprints of The Arc upon it. The Arc continues to be a strong grassroots organization with a rich membership of self-advocates, parents and professionals working together to achieve common goals. They continue the advocacy even today and invite you to join them.

Introducing the new Goodtime Deco Series, a stunning tribute to the vibrant American Art Deco design movement of the 1920s when the banjo reigned as America's most beloved instrument.
Learning how to play the banjo is no different. There are different types of banjos and plenty of new terminology for parts of banjos and playing styles. Aspiring players also wonder what makes one banjo better than another.
Watch and listen to Deering artists play our banjos and choose your favorite tone!
All of our banjos are made by passionate banjo craftsmen and women in our Spring Valley, California shop.
