Skin Tone Banjo Head

The Deering Skin-tone banjo head delivers exactly the tone I'm after, a real "Goldilocks" mylar head if ever there was one: not too bright; not too dark; just right!

I put this head on an old Gumby Goodtime, and it sounds better than it ever did! Deeper tone, with lots of schlock!

Well made. Color is a little different than expected from looking at pictures of it, as others have mentioned. I have not installed it yet on the Deering Hartford 24. I am going to try a set of Deering Julia Belle strings with it on that banjo.

I love the way this banjo head looks! It gives the feel of an old time banjo. I haven't put it on my banjo yet but am sure it will look and sound great. I think it was a great buy!

I really like it. I’ve never been a fan of fiberskin but I do love the Renaissance heads. This is a nice compromise where you get a bit brighter sound than fiber while still getting the look and sound of real skin. I have it mounted on a Goodtime Artisan Special tenor open back tuned CGDA. Great combination for an old timey NOLA street sound.

I love the tone of this head. The appearance could be better and the price is ridiculous.

Closest sound to my real skin head without any of the problems. It’s consistent whatever the gig.

I sent you an e mail, re returning it, i habd not heatd back. I do not like that it is see through and this is not as represented in your add, i akso do not understand why it is si much more expensive???

Remo. Just as I hoped, and I won´t even think about trying a renaissance head, even if I know, they are great too. The one I got, is a little brownish, and looks much more like a something from an animal than any fiber skin, I have seen. Every time yo see a fiber skin (even at a distance) you always think: "Here we have a plastic fiber skin". Not so with this one. It does not mean a lot to me, but I know, it does to someone. I don´t know if these skins differ in appearance, and the way different banjos react to it, but this banjo loves it, and it will stay on it as long as it can. The appearance of this head is a bit disappointing since the cold gray mottled pattern is too regular to look like a calfskin head but lightly sanding it with 150 grit sandpaper, then with medium Scotchbrite, then fine Scotchbrite gives it a softer more natural and more opaque appearance.

The head works well for my traditional bluegrass banjos both new Yates and Pre-war Gibson. Like the tone, look and feel...the price, not so much.
