I love this instrument! It is fun to play, the action is perfect and I love the tone.
I enjoy the volume it can produce as well. It's not overpowering but produces a wonderful full sound.

me. Intonation is exceptional, adjustments easily made to bridge and brackets... The open back allows for variation on tone and volume depending upon how it is held.....All Good!
....An hour later, I was still plucking away in that store and I was in love. We walked out of the store with it and that was two years ago. Although I still occasionally play my other instruments, they are basically collecting dust! It's become my Go TO instrument!! I enjoy playing so much, I taught my husband to play ukulele so I've have someone to play with. (He's a horn player from way back-sax, flute, clarinet, but as I told him, we all know that string players have bigger brains, so just give it a shot!) He's been playing now for 2 years with me, and we are having a BLAST!! THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL INSTRUMENT!!!!! Read LessRead less about From the moment I picked up this
love playing it. I just have to learn to play it more like a banjo. My only issue has been the C string sounds a little dull even after restringing. Read LessRead less about This was my first ukulele. I had

decent playability. I had to shave the bridge down to get the action right, but that was easy. Whoever set it up didn't tighten the head before setting the bridge height. Once I tightened it, the bridge was way too high. The rosewood pad under the bridge is genius! It makes a huge difference in the tone (I tried it both ways). This is--by far--the best, most useful banjolele I have ever had (I have owned and sold many).
i use this instrument to cover old swing tunes in a street jazz group. The volume is fine in the group--including when I take a solo. I highly recommend this. I hope that deering comes out with a premium version that features a brass tone ring. Or perhaps a Boston version? Read LessRead less about I have been playing for decades, have
ssue - I can hold my own with acoustic guitars and other instruments.
When I play my other, non-Deering banjo ukulele, people assume it's a toy or a novelty because of its miniature appearance. This is not often the case with my Deering. Its full sized pot, carved headstock, and pro tuners give a serious impression. It's full sound isn't tinny - it sits nicely in the mix. Also, I use a banjo strap when playing - the big pot means you have to strap it on like a banjo and not hold it like a ukulele.
If you're into George Formby, Tiny Tim, and more traditional banjolele applications, this instrument may not be to your liking. But if you have an open mind and want a well-built, logical take on a banjo-ukulele hybrid, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Read LessRead less about I own both the concert and tenor scale
1) The pot is way too big. Even most modern 5 string banjos only use a 11" pot. Most banjoleles are 8". ...Read MoreRead more about I had the opportunity to play a few of
2) The oversized pot makes the instrument unbalanced both in body to neck weight and overall look.
3) The pale maple finish makes this look like the albino of the instrument family.
4) The sound is more loud than tone-ful. Low end seems disproportionate to the high end.
5) The scale length of a tenor is diminished by (again) the pot.
A couple of good things:
1) Overall quality of the build is good. Deering does nice work overall.
2) Volume will cut through. That's the only good thing about the big pot.
What I would have liked to see:
1) 8" pot
2) Dark finish (or at least more contrast).
3) Resonator. (Why so few resonators on tenor banjoleles?)
4) Full use of the tenor scale length.
5) Arm rest. (Again, why is this missing from EVERY banjolele?)
6) Strat hooks, buttons, or loops. (Again, why not?)
7) A different headstock. Banjolele headstocks don't mimic banjo headstocks too often. (Maybe a through headstock???)
Just to be clear, I like Deering instruments. I've played several. In general, they are excellent instruments and designed well... But this was a huge miss for me. There is some historical accuracy from a few instruments, true, but in general this isn't what I would expect to get in a new banjolele.
