When you step up to a Little Wonder you get a banjo featuring a durable ebony fingerboard that gives you the look and feel of a professional instrument. Both the comfortable neck and quality 11" rim are stained with a deep warm brown. The pot has a coordinator rod that easily and accurately adjusts the banjos "action″ or string height for easy playability. The peghead of the maple neck is overlaid with black and is inlaid with a white Vega logo and beautifully engraved star.
The Little Wonder is fully adjustable through the truss rod in the neck, the coordinator rod, and the Deering True Tone tailpiece. Planetary tuning machines come standard on the Little Wonder. It is bright, responsive and full of life and easy to take with you anywhere because of the lightweight.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your comments. We have a great article on our blog (deeringbanjos.com/blogs/deering-banjos-ebony/10122637-deering-ebony-an-introduction) that does address the vary details you noticed on your fingerboard.
Because ebony is a natural resource, it is rare, if ever, possible to find the solid black color that Mother Nature offered all of us in the past. Ebony is a very dense hard wood with a very tight grain. Because of this, staining an ebony fingerboard is not fruitful over time. The stain will wear off and the wood will return to its natural state. We wrote this article to explain to our customers that we are using a natural resource not an artificially "enhanced" resource that will, over time, lose the black stain and return to the natural colorful state. We only put almond oil on the fingerboards of our banjos so that they are protected from dryness as opposed to surprising them over time by changing color. Those manufacturers you mentioned are not actually being honest in their approach to the customer; they are hiding what is beneath the stain and what you will eventually see.
We use the natural ebony on all our banjos to all our dealers. This means that banjos through Musicians Friends, Guitar Center and any other larger dealers will not be shipped anything differently than would be sent to a smaller sized dealer. The pictures online may not always reflect this because the details of the fingerboard can be lost in the small online graphics that all dealers use.
For further understanding of what we mean by natural ebony resources, I would like to send you this link on YouTube made by the Taylor Guitar Company where Bob Taylor explains what is happening with our ebony resources of today.
Here is the link: youtube.com/watch?v=anCGvfsBoFY. We work with Taylor Guitars to resource our ebony and we found his video was a great way to help customers understand what we are facing today in regards to this natural resource.
Your banjo has a natural ebony fingerboard that is quite durable and is being used on all our professional level models. With the blog article, we have been open and honest about what our customers can expect. I would have welcomed an email from you before the return of the banjo to help you understand what you were seeing in your Vega banjo.
My hope is that by taking the time to address your concerns now that you will see that we have offered honest and forthright information to our customers on their purchases in advance. We have two customer support lines for questions as well and encourage folks to contact us with any questions ahead of final purchase as well. They are carolinabridges@deeringbanjos.com or info@deeringbanjos.com. Thank you for your honesty and again, for giving us the opportunity this for you.
