Luciya Sullivan is an award-winning teen banjo player from Chicago. She was the 2023 winner of the RockyGrass banjo contest, at age 15. Luciya began playing banjo at age six in North Carolina, where she was inspired by banjo player Rex McGee and by the musical community of young pickers at regional fiddlers’ conventions. Her duo, The Sullivan Sisters, has been featured at IBMA’s Bluegrass Live Festival, Merlefest 2024, and on the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, as well as at Chicago area venues such as the Chicago Bluegrass Legends concert series, the Banjo After Dark series, Evanston SPACE, Park West (with the Henhouse Prowlers), and the Old Town School of Folk Music’s Square Roots Festival.
