2010 Deering Boston Banjos Have New Look |
The new 2010 Boston banjos, available in both 5-string and 6-string, have a new fingerboard inlay pattern of white mother of pearl dots surrounded by leaves of maple with a golden hue. The new peghead design includes Greg Deering’s original white, pearlescent banner inlay engraved with the Deering name at the top and a center medallion of maple and white mother of pearl. In addition, a new nameplate has been added at the 19th fret on the fingerboard; a graceful maple banner engraved “Boston.”. With Deering’s consistent belief that giving customers greater value along with improvement is important, the new features have been added to the Boston 5-string and 6-string banjos without price increase. The 5-string still retails for only $1979 and the 6-string for $2339. They are available now through all authorized Deering dealers or factory direct at www.Deeringbanjos.com.
The Boston banjo is uniquely Deering and is played by mainstream professionals like Keith Urban and others who appreciate a banjo that has great projection and records well. Keith’s use of the 6-string banjo on stage and in his Grammy Award winning recordings has inspired others to think of the banjo as an instrument well beyond its traditional bluegrass roots. The Boston was named by Greg Deering as a tribute to the city which, over 100 years ago, was the Mecca of banjos and the banjo world of that time. Today you can find Deering’s Boston banjo and other models being played by professionals and enthusiasts throughout the globe.

Acoustic/Electric Deering Banjos in Any Style of Play |
Whether you play 4-string, 5-string, or 6-string banjo, Deering now has an easy to install pickup to turn your banjo into an acoustic/electric model. Achieving a balanced sound when amplifying a banjo has always been a difficult task. The new Deering Kavanjo pickup is an easy solution to this issue. In January Deering introduced their Acoustic/Electric 5-string banjo models with this pickup already installed. Now the new 4-string and 6-string versions of this same outstanding pickup make it available for installation on Deering banjos for all styles of music from Irish 4-string tenor through 6-string country and beyond. Deering’s Kavanjo banjo pickup is a Humbucker mounted through the banjo head and provides great volume, is highly feedback resistant, does not require any batteries or a pre-amp, and is noted for its great acoustic sound. Acoustic/electric Deering models include the maple 5-string Goodtime openback banjo at a modest $798 through the professional level 5-string Sierra banjo at only $2998. The pickup is versatile enough to be a custom addition to any Deering banjo for only $269 or purchased for $299 for customers to install on their own banjos. You can order the pickup at www.deeringbanjos.com/kavanjo-banjo-pickup-system or visit your local authorized Deering dealer and order Deering’s new acoustic/electric model banjos today.
“The Kavanjo is the best banjo pickup I have ever heard...and I have tried them all.” David Holt
David Holt, who recently installed a Kavanjo pickup on his Deering signature banjo, went on to say “The banjo is a fairly loud instrument acoustically but very difficult to amplify. Through a mic the banjo often sounds harsh and thin. Most banjo pickups over emphasize the treble tone of the instrument and miss the tonal depth. The Kavanjo pickup gets it just right....your banjo only louder! When I am playing a concert with Doc Watson we often play for 2000 people, sometimes and many as 250,000. A mic just won't deliver the full tonal range of the banjo when it is cranked for giant audiences. Even in these extreme situations the Kavanjo performs perfectly. It allows me to keep the banjo in the mix even when Doc is plugged in and at high volume.”

Performed at the Communication Arts Center of Cuyamaca College on June 11th, the concert will feature world renowned Deering endorsing artists The Kruger Brothers and Taylor Guitar virtuoso Doyle Dykes. The tax-deductible tickets for the 7:00 pm benefit concert are $50 each and can be purchased at the East County EDC Foundation website www.EastCountyEDC.org or by calling 619-258-3670.

Growing up as young luthiers, they benefited from the school sponsored training provided in the industrial arts programs and want to help continue that opportunity for young people today.
Included in the program will be awards honoring the outstanding shop student in each of the East County high schools and community colleges. The event also includes a live auction including a Taylor guitar, the revolutionary new Deering Eagle banjo, and a 1923 Ford “T Bucket” Roadster crafted by Valhalla High School’s Auto Technology/Design/Fabrication Program.
